He scored a perfect score of 40 - the third of the night - and Jayne, who performed the circus-themed skate 39 years ago, burst into tears.

The 64-year-old told him: "I mean we know that technically your skating has always been good, but tonight everything came together.

"The performance, erm, I'm getting emotional now."

Christopher leaned over and touched her arm, as fellow judge Oti Mabuse took over giving Regan his feedback.

Oti said: "Oh I love to see that. Regan for a couple of weeks I thought you were on the same level but tonight, you were so technically good."

Regan was also in tears, and said "This is insane. It's not just a skate, it's your life. It's amazing getting to recreate that.

"It was such an honour to get to recreate part of your life."

This week, the remaining couples were tasked with recreating some of Torvill and Dean's most iconic performances from over the years.

Co-host Phillip Schofield said it was "one of the best shows we have ever done."

Track and field Paralympian Stef Reid was eliminated at the end of tonight's show and misses out on a place in the semi-finals.

It was a unanimous decision by all four judges after she faced Kye Whyte in a tense skate-off.

She said: "I have absolutely loved every moment. It is just not something that I ever thought I would be able to do."

Turning to her professional partner Andy Buchanan, she added: "Just learning to skate and getting to learn about performance and dance. I can't thank you enough."
