Scotlands 400yearold pub where Burns was regular and food is
For those looking to celebrate Burns Night in a unique way, one historic Scottish pub that the legendary bard himself used to frequent remains open to this day.

This Thursday marks Burns Night, an annual celebration where Scots all over the world come together to honour the life and work of Robert Burns.

On January 25, special Burns Suppers will take place across Scotland and beyond as people around the globe feast on mouthwatering haggis and recite some of the legendary bard's poetry. If you want to commemorate Burns this week but aren't the biggest haggis fan, there is one Scottish inn he used to frequent that is well worth a visit.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, The Globe Inn in the town of Dumfries is where the poet spent much of his final years. The pub dates all the way back to 1610, and is still pulling pints to this day — nearly 230 year after Burns died at the age of 37.

Known for his love of a drink, Burns was a regular at The Globe Inn. Much of the inn's history before the time of Burns remains a mystery, but since then it has been owned by only three different families.

For those interested in learning more about the life of the bard, the pub hosts a special tour where guests can see rooms and furniture used by Burns himself. As well as getting a glimpse of the bedroom he stayed in while courting Anna Park, you can even take a seat in his actual chair — though a recital of some of his poetry is required!

Situated on Dumfries' High Street, The Globe Inn is only a short walk from both the house that Burns lived in and the mausoleum where he was laid to rest after his death in 1796. Just a few weeks before he died, the bard wrote of his affection for the pub — calling it "my Howff, where our friend Clarke and I have had many a merry squeeze".

While The Globe Inn's unique ties to Scotland's national poet make it worth a visit alone, there is plenty else on offer. Providing a perfect cosy atmosphere, the inn serves up food that has been described as "Michelin-level" by visitors. That isn't too surprising, given that the chefs worked with the late Andrew Fairlie — the only Scots chef to have ever been awarded two Michelin stars.

Taking to Tripadvisor, the visitor wrote: "Congratulations to everyone who delivered food, drinks and took our order. So attentive and friendly. An absolutely top drawer experience. This is Michelin level without a doubt."

Meanwhile, a second Tripadvisor user posted: "What a treasure hidden away in Dumfries. A warm welcome started our lunch off perfectly.

"The service was great and the food sublime. We had the tasting menu and were all blown away by the presentation as well as the flavours. The general manager showed us around the historic rooms ending a very memorable trip. Would highly recommend."
