Philippe Clement breaks silence on Ryan Kent Rangers transfer link

The winger, 27, has been released by Fenerbahce after a nightmare time in Turkiye.

Kent had signed a four-year deal with the Super Lig side but played just 19 times.

The English forward had been linked with a transfer escape route in the summer but failed to finalise a departure from Fenerbahce.

Manager Jose Mourinho reportedly warned Kent he would never play for the club while he was in charge eventually leading to a termination of his contract.

Now, Clement has been grilled over whether Kent could return to Rangers - but the Belgian was typically coy on any transfer dealings.

"I said already in that one year, already a lot of times I don't go into rumours," said Clement. "Because then it never stops, and it's already busy with all the press conferences with you guys.  So, no, I'm not going to go into rumours."

Clement did, however, reveal he tried to sign Kent for Club Brugge before he made the move to Rangers.

"Of course, I know the player, and I've known him a long time, because the moment he went to Rangers, I was in talks with him to get him to Brugge.

"But there was a better deal, I think, in Rangers, in that way, so he chose for that. So, I've known him a long time, but I'm not going into rumours about bringing players on."

Confirming Kent's exit, a Fenerbahce statement read: "The contract of Ryan Kent, one of the players of the Professional Football A Team, has been mutually terminated."
