Sam Fender has cancelled two tour dates due to a “haemorrhaged vocal cord.”

The singer best known for hits like Seventeen Going Under and Hypersonic Missiles had been on his People Watching tour ahead of his third studio album’s release. Fender, 30, has since confirmed the Glasgow and Newcastle dates for his People Watching tour have been cancelled on the advice of two ENT doctors.

Taking to Twitter/X, Fender shared the unfortunate news, calling time on the tour for this year. He wrote: “Glasgow and Newcastle, as most of you know I’ve had the flu for a few days now. Regardless of how compromised my voice was I did everything I could to get it in working order last night to put on the best show possible.

“Today I’ve had an ENT scope/camera down my throat and sadly I’ve haemorrhaged my right vocal cord, I’m absolutely heartbroken. This has been the best tour so far and all I want to do is get up and sing again for you all tonight. I’ve had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight I’m risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals.

“I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky. I’m so, so sorry to all of you who are on your way tonight. We’re trying to figure out a way to reschedule for you all, more news soon.”

Fender’s update saw the singer flooded with well wishes from fans who told the songwriter to “rest up” ahead of a packed 2025 calendar. He was set to play Glasgow’s OVO Hydro tonight (December 17) and a homecoming show at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on December 20.

The singer will release his new album, People Watching, on February 21. Further dates for the People Watching tour are not affected by this sudden cancellation, and can be found below. All dates are sold out.

Fender confirmed £1 for every ticket sold on the UK tour dates would be donated to the Music Venue Trust in support of grassroots venues. Fender is also set to play three dates at St. James’ Park next June, as well as a date at London Stadium.
