Nottingham Forest beat Cardiff to Sam Surridge and then sign Dijon defender Jonathan Panzo

Nottingham Forest have pulled off a transfer deadline day double by signing striker Sam Surridge and England Under-21 defender Jonathan Panzo.

They then added defender Panzo from French Ligue 2 side Dijon, on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Forest moved for Surridge after fellow forward Lewis Grabban got injured in Sunday's defeat at Cardiff.

Cardiff had been looking to sign Surridge on loan for the rest of the season - to bolster their attacking resources after agreeing a deal to sell Wales striker Kieffer Moore to Bournemouth. But Forest trumped them by signing the former Swansea City loan man on a more permanent basis.

Surridge, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, only joined Stoke last summer, arriving from Bournemouth.

He scored a late winner against Reading on his debut on the opening day of the season, but has managed just three more in a total of 24 appearances.

Steve Cooper's Forest lie eighth in the Championship, two points off a play-off place.
