Sarah Storey could make history if she wins Sports Personality of the Year, after a glittering career in swimming and cycling.

Hoping to take top prize at the 68th annual Sports Personality of the Year ceremony, record-breaking Sarah Stoney is in with a chance of making history.

Should she come out on top, Storey would be the first Paralympian to claim the award.

The other nominees are diver Tom Daley, boxer Tyson Fury, swimmer Adam Peaty, tennis player Emma Raducanu, footballer Raheem Sterling.

Held at Media City in Salford on Sunday, 19 December, coverage is set to start from 6:45PM GMT on BBC One until around 9:00PM GMT, but it often overruns.

You can vote by phone or online on the night during the ceremony, for the main award.

Who is Sarah Storey?

Born Sarah Bailey in Eccles, Salford, she received a damehood in 2013 and is one of the greatest sportspeople Britain has ever produced.

Stoney was born without a functioning arm after it was tangled in the womb's umbilical cord.

She first joined a swimming club at 10 years old, but was told by her coach she had started too late and she would 'never be good at anything.'

Just four years later, at the age of 14, she won two golds, three silvers and a bronze for swimming in Barcelona at the 1992 Paralympic Games.

Storey switched to cycling in 2005 and three years later, at the 2008 Paralympic Games, Storey won the individual pursuit.

Her time would have been in the top eight at the Olympic final.

She has regularly competed against able-bodied competitors and beaten them, winning the 3 km national track pursuit championship in 2008, 2009 and 2014 in the points race.

Storey, 44, has been to eight Paralympic Games and collected an incredible 17 golds and in total 28 medals, making her the most successful British Paralympian of all time.

Who is Sarah Storey married to?

The athlete married tandem pilot and cycling coach Barney Storey MBE in 2007.

They have two children together, daughter Louisa, eight, and Charlie, four.
