The new Dons boss will take over when the post-split fixtures are played early next month after winning the race to replace Derek McInnes.

Glass grew up in an era when Aberdeen were a force to be reckoned with and legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson urged chairman Dave Cormack to find a gaffer who could stick it to the Old Firm.

Glass, who will bring in Celtic skipper Scott Brown as no2 this summer, reckons he’s just the man.

He said: “I think the thing I want to put on the pitch is an attacking style.

“It’s honestly nothing new for Aberdeen, when I came into the club that was what was expected.

“I came in as a really young kid and saw it, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s teams did things that people are still talking about now, but he was doing it in the eighties.

“Alex Smith was doing it in the eighties.

“Attacking, trying to win games every week - and when you’re going to Glasgow, you’re going to WIN.

“If you can put an Aberdeen team on that people can believe in, people will come to watch and believe in what is going to happen.

“That’s the aim: fast, attacking football, and scoring goals hopefully as well. There’s a huge incentive to do well.

“I think the mentality is in there already, but you either want to be the best or you don’t, and there are enough people around Aberdeen who want to be the best.

“With the staff that are there and what I’ll add, we can really push things hopefully to another level that hasn’t been around the club for a while.

“It’s been successful here and there but we’re looking for a sustained period of success and to get to that next level in Europe.

“Successful Aberdeen managers put trophies in the cabinet and hopefully I’m there long enough that I can be one of those managers who does that.”

Glass admits he struggled to sleep waiting on news whether he’d get the nod to come back to Pittodrie.

But now his dream job has become reality, can’t wait to get working with his new players.

He said: “I have been struggling to sleep since the news that the previous manager parted ways with the club.

“There were a lot of sleepless nights hoping you’d get that call but you just never know.

“I thought I would get a good sleep last night but that never happened either because you start thinking about what’s next.

“I wouldn’t come home for something that I didn’t know I could make a success.

“The club’s right, the people I’m going to work for and with are right, there is a great existing staff.

“The opportunity is enormous. The trust people are putting in me is big but I believe I’ll repay it.

“The people I’m hoping to get on board, they want to do the same thing.

“I am proud to be back, I am proud to be the manager of the club.

“The fans backing would be fantastic and I am hoping that over the coming weeks they are going to see a team on the pitch that they will want to come and watch next year.

“That they are going to have a belief that, with additions coming in over the summer, new staff coming in, existing staff feeling embraced, there is a bright future for Aberdeen we can all feel a part of.”

One of those additions will be Brown, whose 14-year Celtic career will end this summer, and England coach Allan Russell has also been targeted.

Brown will combine playing with coaching and Glass reckons having senior stars around him will be crucial.

He said: “I think it’s hard to quantify how much that can help.

“If you get the right senior players at a club they drive everything for you.

“They look after the mentality of the young ones, they drive the demands in training.

“On the pitch if you’ve got a real leader in among the younger ones and maybe even the older ones who’ve maybe not felt that success or not had that belief you can notch things up a little more than what you’ve got.

“Senior players are really important and young players will respond to good senior players.

“So hopefully the ones that are there already will step up, I’m sure they will.

“Any we can add in will really add to the group and we will add the right types if we think they will add to the group. I’m sure they will.

“From my side I’m expecting the backing every manager at Aberdeen gets from a chairman.

“Good chairmen back their manager and that’s what I’ll be looking for.

“In terms of what he wants from me it is out there he is looking for the club to be successful, which means being as high up the league as possible, filling the stadium and when people are allowed back in, they want to come and watch your team.

“Bringing trophies, the next stage in Europe. But it’s something that takes time, it’s not instant.”
