Many of Sydney’s most popular beaches were closed yesterday after a swimmer was killed in the city’s first fatal shark attack in almost 60 years.
Witnesses said they saw a large great white shark maul the victim, who was wearing a black wetsuit, before dragging him below the water in Little Bay, southeastern Sydney, eight miles from the central business district. Police found human remains and half of a torn wetsuit in the water, although the victim had not been identified.
