The visitors started well and almost took the lead in the 37th minute through Rodrigo Muniz, but United keeper Ivo Grbic deflected the ball onto the post. The first half ended goalless.
United broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Oli McBurnie's cross from the left found Ben Brereton Díaz in the box for a quick tap-in, but Fulham equalised just four minutes later through João Palhinha's header off Andreas Pereira's corner.
McBurnie restored United's lead in the 68th minute, with Brereton Diaz returning the favour with an assist just two minutes before he got his second goal off Gustavo Hamer's cross from the left.
Celebrations had already begun in the stands at Bramall Lane in anticipation of a win, but substitute Decordova-Reid, who had replaced Pereira a minute prior, found the net from outside the box to bring Fulham back into the game.
Muniz completed the comeback three minutes into added time with an incredible overhead bicycle kick off Adama Traoré's pass, leaving Grbic with no chance.
