Owls thrash West Brom to extend unbeaten run
Sheffield Wednesday maintained their push to avoid Championship relegation with a thumping victory over West Brom at Hillsborough.
Anthony Musaba opened the scoring after 22 minutes before Ike Ugbo and Josh Windass made sure of the result in the second half.
It is their third win in five, and Danny Rohl's side are 20th in the table, three points above the relegation zone.
Defeat for the Baggies puts pressure on their play-off chase, as they are just three points above Hull, who face Ipswich at 20:00 BST, in sixth.
Both sides traded opportunities early on, with Will Vaulks forcing Alex Palmer into a strong save at one end, before Mikey Johnston tested Beadle after he was fed by Jed Wallace.
Wednesday went ahead through Masaba after 25 minutes. Vaulks' corner was barely cleared before Palmer parried a shot into his path and he finished emphatically from close range.
Seven minutes before half time, Kyle Bartley thought he had levelled for the Baggies, but his header from a corner, destined for the back of the net, hit Wallace and was then cleared.
In first half stoppage time, Yann M'Vila went close. He met s cross from Johnston, but couldn't guide his shot goal-wards.
It took five minutes after the break for the home side to double their lead, Musaba drove into the box after Barry Bannan won the ball in midfield, but the ball fell to Ugbo who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
The third came with just over 20 minutes remaining. Windass tapped home when Palmer's save from Bannan's drive from distance fell into his path.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"My team was outstanding and I'm very proud of them today.
"We fought for every inch to defend our box; we were 3-0 up and we wanted a clean sheet.
"It is not easy against such an opponent - they are really strong and they have good possession. We were really able to do it this for 100 minutes, defend as a team. We deserved to win.
"We need one more win and we're still not safe. Focus and concentration for one more week and then we can really celebrate. This is what I demand from my team.
"We beat a top six team today; I'm proud. I love my team and we have invested everything we have. Today we should enjoy the moment, but we go again next game."
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio WM:
"We are disappointed with the result because we wanted to achieve three points today.
"In the moment that we were better than them, we didn't find the goal. The moment they were better than us, they scored goals.
"I don't think their energy is the reason why we lost the game.
"The reason is more about how we approached the game and not scoring from the chances we created. In football, goals change games.
"My responsibility as a coach is to analyse everything I do as a coach; the responsibility of the players is to analyse everything they do on the pitch."
