This week the mum-of-five helped Martin and Shirley who have lived in their home for two generations as Martin grew up in the home with his parents.

Now their kids have moved out, the couple were left with lots of clutter to work through in the final episode of the fourth season.

Married for 44 years, the council handyman admits most of the clutter is his fault but Shirley also claims 'they hate throwing stuff away.'

Shirley says there was a time the pair thought they'd never be able to have kids - which is why she now finds it so hard to throw her two daughters' stuff away... despite them moving out with families of their own.

Catherine and Sarah were adopted, with the process taking around eight years 'it was such a long journey to get them, I don't want to throw away their things," says Shirley.

And the mum - who revealed she wanted to give her kids the love and affection she never got said they were now looking to foster kids - hence clearing the house out.

After the contents of their house was taken to the warehouse the family began to rummage through to pick out what to come and what to chuck.

Their hoarding ways meant they had accumulated 306 soft toys, 124 towels, 106 spanners and 189 out of date food items.

While going through the toys section, Stacey pulled out a rather tired looking one-eyed doll which Stacey was eager to see the back of.

The Loose Woman presenter asked Shelly if it was time to say goodbye which instantly brought the mum to tears.

Stacey Solomon: A star's story of success and versatility

"When I was a child I used to hold her like a real baby and say to her things I never got told by my mother," Shirley revealed.

"Which was 'I will always look after you for the rest of my life,' and that's why she's with me."

Stacey was instantly touched by Shelly's vulnerable confession and tears - pulling Shirley in for a hug.

I cannot stop thinking about that doll

"I'm such an emotional wreck," the mum confessed as Stacey said: "I'm sorry, it's the process, I feel partly responsible."

Shirley was able to say goodbye to her beloved doll for good after giving it a kiss.

But for once, Stacey decided the doll meant too much to Shirley to let the doll end up in landfill and decided to rescue it as a surprise for Shirley.

"I cannot stop thinking about that doll, I can't leave creepy here, I feel terrible we've convinced her to let it go," Stacey explained.

"It's a huge part of her life and probably a huge reason she is who she is, and ended up being such an amazing family woman and incredible mother."

Showing the family around their newly decluttered house, Stacey added: "I'm not sure how you're going to feel about it but it was keeping me up at night, I'm not joking," as she brought through the doll.

Now equipped with two eyes, Shirley burst into tears over the sight of her doll.

Viewers felt the exact same way about the doll, taking to social media to share their thoughts and many were left sobbing at the scene.

One person wrote: "Well they had to keep the doll!"

Another commented: "Why does Sort Your Life Out make me cry every time?"

"Is anyone else crying or is it just me?" penned a third.

Speaking ahead of the latest season, Stacey said, "I’m so happy that the team and I are back to share our favourite tips and tricks on decluttering, upcycling, tidying and being thrifty!

"I love that we get to help people transform their lives for the better, even just a little bit.

“Sort Your Life Out is about showing people that by decluttering your home, you can really make a positive impact on all areas of your life – including saving your hard-earned cash.

"It’s never about shaming people for holding on to their stuff, I definitely have a tendency to hang on to treasured items for longer than I probably should."

Stacey went on to bag the award Best Popular Factual Show for her home revamp show at the RTS awards earlier this year - which took place at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Speaking about her win on Instagram, Stacey beamed: “We Won. Our First EVER award for sort your life out & my first ever award for my own tv show. And it’s a @royaltelevisionsociety award!!

“It’s only taken me 15 years, I don’t even know what to say. I definitely wasn’t ready for the speech.

“S.Y.L.O has such a huge place in my heart & there is nothing I love more than meeting people & being a part of changing their lives around.

“It is so special, and something I’ll never take for granted. Thank you to every single family who has welcomed us into your homes. You are the soul of the show.
