Teddy Sheringham recommends old school Roy Keane role for Manchester United
Ralf Rangnick's Man United were hammered 4-1 by arch rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Former striker Teddy Sheringham believes Manchester United need a Roy Keane-like figure to help put the club back on the right track.

United suffered their latest setback on Sunday afternoon when losing 4-1 to cross-city rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. After producing a reasonably positive first-half performance, United collapsed after half-time and were no match for the Premier League table-toppers.

After Riyad Mahrez had netted his first and City's third, almost every City pass was greeted by a chorus of 'ole's from the home fans. United players appeared quite happy to let the home side dominate possession without any form of pressure being applied.

After being hammered by Leicester City, Liverpool and Watford earlier this season, this was another damaging performance and result in what is turning out to be a disastrous season for the Old Trafford club. And while plenty of repair work needs to be done this summer, former Reds ace Sheringham believes they are in need of some of Keane's ilk to help put things right.

"Manchester United do [need a Keane-like figure at the club]," Sheringham told Lord Ping. "I was quite excited when he was going to go back into management at Sunderland, but it never materialised for whatever reason.

"He is old school and sometimes you need to go back to old school and get your priorities right about how to run a football club. Manchester United aren't being run anywhere near to how it should be. That is absurd for a club the stature of Manchester United."

Following the defeat to City, Keane, who was covering the game as a pundit for Sky Sports, ripped into United's players. He slammed the egos in the current dressing room.

He said: "I don't know who's running that dressing room. Look at [Harry] Maguire, he had a poor game. Is he having battles with [Cristiano] Ronaldo for the captaincy and all these things?

"Egos come into it, you leave egos at the front door, these guys are all about 'how am I looking? Are my boots nice? Is my hair looking good?' Play the game!

"You're at Man United. We were looking at the fans behind the goal and they knew, they're not daft, this team we're supporting have given up."
