Timothée Chalamet Rocked Two Mini Cartier Tanks at Once
The ever-stylish star delivered 2025’s first iconic watch moment.

Call him Timo-Two Cartiers. On Friday, at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, the actor who effortlessly slid into Bob Dylan pulled off yet another high-wire act: Pairing a mini Cartier Tank with… a second mini Cartier Tank. Hell yes. Just a few days into 2025 and we already have ourselves an iconic red-carpet moment, with Timothée Chalamet doubling down on one of the biggest watch trends of last year.

Back in August, teeny-time timepieces had become a massive thing for the industry. Cartier stoked the fire in 2023 with its diminutive Bagnoire Bangle, and Hublot and Audemars Piguet kept it roaring last year with the release of dantier spins on the Classic Fusion Original and Royal Oak, respectively. Now, Chalamet and his wispy mustache have demonstrated exactly what makes these mini watches so exciting.

Mini watches—anything clocking in at 27 mm or below, for our purposes—are the tapas of the horological world. (As opposed to the porterhouses, like your IWC Big Pilots or Rolex Submariners.) To really make magic happen with a tiny timepiece, then, you’re almost certainly gonna need to order a couple more plates for the table. It’s why after the super-stylish collector Mark Cho invested in the Bagnoire Bangle, he chose to wear it concealed beneath his shirt sleeve as a fun extra surprise, while his main-dish watch sat visible on his other wrist. When Rihanna wears her fun-sized Royal Oak, she pairs it with a half-dozen bracelets—the wristwear equivalent of a seafood tower stacked with one gleaming layer atop another.

Like the aforementioned A-plus dressers, Chalamet treated his mini Tanks as jewelry-like accessories rather than purely functional watches. In fact, the Dune star didn’t stop at the dual Tanks; he also piled on a third piece of wristwear—one of Cartier’s iconic Love bracelets. Now that’s a committed brand ambassador if we’ve ever seen one.

On the press tour for his Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Chalamet has found a way to endear himself to just about every possible audience: He dropped prolific Dylan knowledge with Nardwuar, proved himself a ball knower on College Gameday, and—my personal favorite—even hit the Soulja Boy “Crank That” during an interview. Now, with two mini Tanks on his wrist, he’s potentially convinced a few serious watch heads to hit the theaters too.
