The meal was so low-key that a lot of people didn't realise they were dining so close to Hollywood royalty

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has been spotted tucking into not one, but two tikkas at a curry house in Birmingham.

The Top Gun actor popped into the restaurant while taking a break from shooting Mission: Impossible 7 in the Midlands.

He spent two hours at Asha's on Saturday night, August 21, Birmingham Live report.

And Tom enjoyed his chicken tikka masala so much that he ordered a second portion, according to Asha's general manager Nouman Farooqui.

The restaurant was only told hours before that Tom – who was also spotted several times in the Grand Central shopping centre – was going to be coming in.

When the star from Syracuse in New York arrived at 6pm along with five others and a security detail, Tom insisted he should not be treated differently to anybody else.

The group was even happy to sit on a table in the middle of the restaurant.

Their meal was so low-key that not everybody inside Asha's recognised him or was aware they were dining so close to Hollywood royalty.

Nouman said: "Tom arrived at 6pm and the picture was taken on my folding Samsung phone by one of his security team at 8.10pm as he was leaving.

"When he came he said he didn't want any fuss and just wanted to be part of the atmosphere.

"He wanted a meal just like any other guest and simply wanted to enjoy an authentic Indian meal.

"A few diners recognised him but not all. Nobody made a fuss, though when he left people went a little bit crazy.

"He agreed to have his picture taken outside in a socially-distanced way and had his mask on for the first picture.

"He then took his mask off and said: 'Take another one'."

Since making his debut 40 years ago in Endless Love (1981), Tom has notched up almost 50 acting credits.

In the 1990s he was Oscar-nominated on two occasions for best actor (Born on the Fourth of July / Jerry Maguire) and once for best supporting actor (Magnolia, 2000).

Films since then include Jack Reacher, written by Birmingham-educated Lee Childs who went to King Edward's.
