Tom Cruise teases new footage from Top Gun: Maverick in a new video for CBS Sports during the AFC Championship ...

Fans tuning in to CBS for the AFC Championship game on Sunday afternoon were treated to a surprise video from Tom Cruise that included footage from his highly-anticipated movie Top Gun: Maverick.

Cruise, 59, returns as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the highly-anticipated sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun, which hits theaters May 27.

The actor is seen discussing the two teams playing for the AFC Championship - the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals - while footage from the sequel is shown in the background.

The video begins with the phrase, 'The Time Is Now as Cruise is seen with two jets in the background on an aircraft carrier.

'Football. America's game. A sport that rewards hard work, sacrifice, dedication and skill. A sport that challenges you to always get better, to never settle for second place,' Cruise says.

The video then cuts to a shot of Cruise on a motorcycle from Top Gun: Maverick, which essentially matches a similar shot from the first movie.

There are other shots of Cruise's Maverick flying a jet and walking down a corridor with his helmet as he says, 'We root for the bold, the brave. The risk-takers who are pushed to the very limit to succeed.'

Another shot shows a new character with the call sign 'Fanboy' (Danny Ramirez) flying through the small gap between two other planes.'

'After all, life is more fun when it comes with a little action,' Cruise says with a smile while another shot shows Maverick taking off from an aircraft carrier.

Cruise then starts talking about the two teams in the AFC Championship Game, the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, who he said are, 'two teams who personify what it takes to make it to the top.'

He added they're two teams who have, 'outlasted their opponents, outsmarted the experts and are ready to prove who is the best of the best.'

Cruise described the Kansas City Chiefs as, 'a franchise coming off one of the most thrilling wins in playoff history, with expectations as high as the sky and the talent to bring them to a third consecutive Super Bowl.'

Chiefs: Cruise then starts talking about the two teams in the AFC Championship Game, the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, who he said are, 'two teams who personify what it takes to make it to the top'

The Cincinnati Bengals he said are, 'a team who have spent the past year proving their critics wrong, a team who continues to shock the world.'

He added the Bengals are 'hungry' and 'resilient' and, 'they're determined to make this season their season' as we see another shot of Cruise doing a barrel roll.

Cruise continued they are two teams, 'are on the edge of history' and both are committed to being, 'the best of the best.'

The video ends with Cruise stating a line from the first movie, 'So lets kick the tires and light the fires, because the time is now.'
