#GE2019: Corbyn suffers major blow as Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson stands down and rocks party

Labour\'s deputy leader Tom Watson is stepping down from his role and will not run as an MP in the pre-Christmas snap election. Mr Watson is one of Labour\'s best-known figures. He has represented his constituency (West Bromwich East) since 2001. Mr Watson, 52, joined the Labour party in 1982 and was elected as the party\'s deputy leader in 2015. He says he will continue to campaign for the party, and the decision was \"personal, not political\". Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn thanked Mr Watson for his service, adding: \"This is not the end of our work together.\" Mr Watson has often been at odds with the leadership and faced an attempt to oust him at Labour\'s conference. On 17th October 2019 Labour\'s deputy leader Tom Watson had his final intervention in the House of Commons on age verification. Watson then ridiculed the government. #TomWatson #Labour #HouseOfCommons
