Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight called off due to illness with Tyron Woodley to step in to fight YouTube star
ommy Fury’s grudge match against YouTuber Jake Paul has been called off, it has been confirmed.
Fury has pulled out of this weekend’s bout due to illness, with Paul instead to fight Tyron Woodley as a last-minute replacement.
The pair were due to meet in Florida on Sunday, but Fury, the brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, is said to have missed training due to illness in recent days.
Paul beat UFC fighter Woodley in Cleveland earlier this year to take his unbeaten professional record to four fights. On the same card, Fury beat Anthony Taylor and a heated exchange between the pair on the night heightened the animosity between them.
Fury, who boasts a 7-0 record of his own, would have been Paul’s first full-time professional opponent after the 24-year-old claimed wins against two former MMA stars, an ex-basketball player, and a fellow celeb of the web in his first four fights.
Paul told his Twitter followers on Monday afternoon: “It’s official, Tommy Fury is boxing’s biggest b****.
“The Furys have pulled out of the fight due to a ‘medical condition’, who knows what the f*** is going on in that camp.
“I couldn’t believe the news at first, it still doesn’t even seem real. He fumbled the biggest bag of his life - now he will be paying me 60 dollars [to watch] instead of getting paid millions of dollars to fight me.
“I’ve fought with a broken nose, I’ve fought sick. Get the f*** over it, this is boxing. I think the pressure got to him.”
