Tottenham vs Manchester United LIVE score and goal updates as Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani score
Manchester United play Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
United lost 5-0 to Liverpool last weekend and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received unprecedented scrutiny after that humiliating defeat.
Although the United board considered Solskjaer's future - Antonio Conte has been regularly linked as his replacement - this week, the decision was made for the Norwegian to remain in charge, however, sources have indicated that he could be on borrowed time.
Three points against Tottenham are essential for United as they look to bounce back from one of the darkest days in the club's history.
Regarding team news, Paul Pogba was sent off in the second half of United's loss to Liverpool and he's suspended for three matches.
Raphael Varane has recovered from a groin injury and starts while Anthony Martial is not in the squad.

Kane lacked quality there.
It's not been his night or his season, for that matter.

That was world-class from Ronaldo and Cavani. Both are firmly in the autumn of their careers, however, their quality is yet to diminish. Cavani’s regular omission from the starting XI this season has been a shame and he’s now proving why he has to start - he works so well with Ronaldo up top.

GOAL!! UNITED 2-0!
CAVANI WITH THE GOAL!
What a pass from Ronaldo and expertly taken from Cavani.

United needed to stop the rot and they’re doing just that here. Another goal would ease nerves and put the game to bed. They’ve been the better side throughout, but it’s worth noting that Spurs have been very average. Solskjaer’s formation change is paying dividends, though.

It's a straight swap.
Bergwijn for Moura.
Tottenham fans booed that sub.

Spurs could have been through on goal.
They should have been, but La Celso's pass was awful.
49' TOT 0-1 MUNSteven Railston
Shaw and Wan-Bissaka deserve credit, they've played well here.
Both looked lost against Liverpool as United were stretched.
47' TOT 0-1 MUNSteven Railston
Ronaldo has the ball in the back of the net but it's offside.
It was a spectacular finish.
47' TOT 0-1 MUNSteven Railston
Kane had just 18 touches of the ball in that first half.
He's been playing deep again and he's been quiet.

That's the whistle for half-time.
That was more like it from United.
Drilled and working well off the ball.

This team might look like a defensive one on a teamsheet and with seven defensively-minded players it’s probably a fair accusation, but that goal is why it can work. The defence has been secure so far, as good as they’ve been all season, and even if there’s only three attackers on the pitch they all belong in the world-class category. It’s been a tepid game but at some point Fernandes, Cavani and Ronaldo were going to find a special moment.

I mused pre-match where the service would come from if Fernandes did not come up with something from nothing but he has there and so did Ronaldo. That was a magnificent goal and United’s approach play should not be forgotten there. They were patient and kept probing until the opening emerged.
United deserve the lead. They have looked much more cohesive and the formation has been completely justified. Withdrawing Fernandes has worked and the wing-backs have been supportive.

GOAL! UNITED 1-0!!
Ronaldo scores the opener.
What a strike that was - great volley.
35' TOT 0-0 MUNTyrone Marshall
This hasn’t been particularly inspiring fare - in fact it’s been an average match between two teams low on confidence - but the change in shape and a full week on the training ground has fixed some of United’s biggest problems, for now. They’ve been much more robust defensively, barely giving up a chance so far, and the control when they do have the ball has been much more impressive. The midfield has been patient and got the wing-backs into the game.
34' TOT 0-0 MUNSteven Railston
Son is through on goal but it's offside.
Wan-Bissaka did outstanding to get back.
32' TOT 0-0 MUNSteven Railston
What an effort from Fred.
The Brazilan's shot from distance is saved by Lloris.
32' TOT 0-0 MUNSamuel Luckhurst
United have had more periods of controlling play than most might have imagined. They have more of an edge up front with Cavani starting and Tottenham’s defence seems detached from most of the front six and their back four have been so narrow when United cross into their territory, so Shaw and Wan-Bissaka are getting a lot of space. Both have performed decently up until now.
30' TOT 0-0 MUNSteven Railston
Wan-Bissaka finds himself in space but the cross is poor.
The movement in the box didn't help.
27' TOT 0-0 MUNKEY EVENT
That's a let-off for United.
