Valentino Rossi Heading For A GT Racing Future After MotoGP Retirement Confirmed
MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi looks set to confirm a 2022 GT race programme after confirming today that he will retire from MotoGP at the end of the current season, bringing to an end a simply monumental career.
His MotoGP career has seen nine World Championship titles come his way with Aprilla, Honda and Yamaha, including seven in the top class, and a total of 115 World Championship race wins, including 89 in the MotoGP World Championship.
Rossi has raced in GT machinery before, including competitive runs in the Gulf 12 Hours in 2019 and 2021 and has made no secret of his desire to race on four wheels at the end of his MotoGP career.
Whilst some media have speculated that he may have a role in the Ferrari Hypercar programme, (Rossi tested several times in Ferrari F1 cars a decade or so ago), the much more likely scenario sees the 42 year old Italian fielded in GT machinery, with an entry at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2022 together with a supporting programme looking the most favoured option at this point.
His sheer draw and a massive fanbase will see no shortage of interest from teams and race organisers alike!
For now though it’s time to say Congratulations to ‘The Doctor’ on an amazing career on two wheels, we look forward to seeing you in a paddock of your choice in 2022.
