The reason South Africa v Wales is at Twickenham today

The game, though, is outside of the international window, which is why English-based players such as Dafydd Jenkins and Tommy Reffell are not allowed to play.

Wales play South Africa today in the the slightly strange surroundings of Twickenham.

The reason for this is the match is actually a South Africa home fixture. The Springboks are targeting the large South African population that lives in London and a decent crowd of 65,000 is expected. Wales were happy to accept the fixture ahead of their two-Test summer tour in Australia as it gives them vital preparation and offers the WRU a certain amount of much-needed income too from their match fee and cut of gate receipts.

The game, though, is outside of the international window, which is why English-based players such as Dafydd Jenkins and Tommy Reffell are not allowed to play. They will be available for the main tour though.

The Principality Stadium is also currently out of action due to a number of concerts a the venue throughout June. After Taylor Swift performed there last week, Foo Fighters are on town this coming week.

South Africa v Wales is actually part of a Twickenham double-header, with Barbarians v Fiji following immediately.

The Springboks match is one Wales really wanted, with Warren Gatland saying: "Yes, definitely. I don't see it any different to when I arrived in 2008 and asked by Roger Lewis who do you want to play I said any time we can play a southern hemisphere team we need to jump at that chance.

"That is the way you improve. Not just in rugby but any sport by playing against the best. That is the biggest part of the development."
