The jungle has a new monarch after three weeks of Bushtucker trials and tribulations, avalanches of critters, and repulsive offal concoctions

After weeks of Bushtucker trials and tribulations, avalanches of critters, repulsive offal concoctions, and the odd sing-along, the jungle has a new monarch.

Twelve celebrities entered the Australian wilderness three weeks ago, braving a diet of rice and beans, constant downpours and the indignity of the dungy.

Daily life involved endless rounds of chores, terrifying trials, challenges, campfire conversations and the odd rat.

And in the final week came the evictions as the public began to make their choice for the series’ sovereign.

All this came to an end on Sunday night, with a new coronation on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here and commiserations for the runner-up.

Who won I’m A Celebrity 2024?

McFly singer and guitarist Danny Jones was crowned the new king of the jungle on Sunday night.

He made it to the final with Coleen Rooney, the wife of former England football player Wayne, and presenter and author Rev Richard Coles.

The latter took third place in the public voting, leaving Jones and Rooney holding out for the throne.

And in the end it was the singer and musician who took the crown when all the public votes were counted.

He said: “It feels amazing, I can’t event talk.

“I just want to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart because it means so much for you to even bother voting.

“It’s like you’ve bought tickets to a show.

“But what’s more amazing is you’ve done it just for me being myself and I’ve never shown that really enough.

“I’ve opened up and I’ve had a lot of laughs.

“And I thank you for being on this journey with me.”

The 38-year-old had been a firm favourite in the camp and with the voting public through the series.

Never one to shy away from a Bushtuckter trial, he completed the very first one of the series along with former champion boxer Barry McGuigan.

It was to be the start of a close friendship for the pair, even though Jones had to endure a tense moment as a snake found its way into his shorts.

He went on to face the High Street of Horrors, pig’s testicles, fish guts and more in the Rank Bank and the Celebrity Cyclone.

And he led the singsong in the Jungle Arms, with his guitar in hand.

But it was being himself around his campmates, which Danny found to be the most rewarding part of his adventure.

He said: “It just felt like a safe space… I gave my all; I gave myself.”

The musician was crowned in front of an audience of his former campmates, which included Oti Mabuse, Melvin Odoom, Barry McGuigan, GK Barry, Maura Higgins, Dean McCullough and Alan Halsall.

What happened in the final episode?

Coleen Rooney and Rev Richard Coles were the last celebrities standing in the jungle with Jones on Sunday.

The trio undertook one last Bushtucker trial for a three course meal of their choice.

They faced fish guts, spiders and cockroaches in the The Towers Of Terror.

In the first half of the challenge, the campmates were joined by snakes as they lay down inside separate levels of a wooden tower.

They had to manoeuvre stars through their cubicles, passing them down to one another until they reached the lowest level of the tower.

Despite their discomfort, they managed to collect all six stars and moved onto the second half of the trial, where they were tasked with untying a variety of knots while in the company of some critters.

After getting all of the remaining stars, they won a reward of a three-course meal and drink.

Jones chose a cold glass of beer, a starter of mozzarella sticks with sweet chilli sauce, a buttermilk chicken burger and chips for his main course, and fresh cream profiteroles with warm Nutella sauce for dessert.

Rooney, 38, had a glass of French pale Provence rose, a bruschetta starter, spaghetti bolognese with flaky parmesan cheese and garlic bread for her main course and fresh cream profiteroles with warm Nutella sauce for dessert.

And Coles, 62, had a prawn cocktail starter, cottage pie and gravy for his main course, fruit cake for dessert, and Chablis for his drink.

Over dinner, conversation turned to Rev Coles conversion from hedonistic days of The Communards to parish priest, presenter and author.

It was a chance for the final three to reflect on their camp experience before the results of the public vote were announced.
