But that’s the way his conversation with Aussie channel The Project went as they pleaded for the Celtic boss to make a sensational return home.

Postecoglou left the Australian national team job five years ago to seek new ventures managing in Japan.

Those down under though look as if they’d love to have him back, with the interviewer jokingly comparing his resignation to a father leaving his family.

He said: “A lot of Aussie’s were very sad to see you go.

“You described it at the time as just being like a trial separation.

“Even though you’re smashing it over there in Scotland I’m sure a lot of us would like to know, are you ever open to coming back to the marital bed? Is daddy ever going to come home?

Postecoglou laughed: “It’s a good way of putting it, right?

“Probably a bit more explicit than I would have thought about it!

“I’m still an Aussie. I was born in Greece, I’m very proud of my heritage, Greece is the place my parents come from.

“But I’m a typical sort of immigrant story in Australia.

“I grew up here, I’m sort of ingrained in Aussie culture, so it’s always going to be my home.

“Yeah one day I’ll come back, but I think for me I’d just reached a point where I wanted to do more, for the game and for myself.

“I just felt that when you go overseas and hopefully have success there, it actually sort of helps raise the profile of the thing you’ve always been passionate about.

“I’m sure I’ll return to Australia one day. About the marital bed, I think once you leave that it’s best left alone!”

The Hoops boss also touched on his new nickname from fans in Glasgow.

He even revealed the fact it’s taken his wife some time to properly understand what it means.

Postecoglou added: “Everyone sort of calls me ‘big Ange’ over here.

“My wife, for her it was a bit hard to figure out why they were all calling me ‘big Ange’.

“She actually asked the question: ‘what if he actually loses weight?’ and I said no that’s not why they call me big Ange.”
