Until I Kill Yous Anna Maxwell Martins really difficult time as ex
The star lost her ex husband Roger Michell after a year after they had split, and spoke recently about the loss

Anna Maxwell Martin recently shared the tough times she had been through after her former husband died - saying his death had affected every area of her life. Roger Michell, known for his work on Notting Hill, passed away in 2021 at the age of 65.

This was a year after he and Anna, 47, who have two daughters together, had gone public with their separation. Michell suffered a heart attack on the very day he completed the final sound mix for his last film, the Prime documentary Elizabeth: A Portrait in Parts, which was released after his passing.

The Mail reported the post-mortem examination listed on Roger's death certificate revealed he died from a) Acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and b) left coronary atheroma (a build-up of fatty deposits in the coronary artery). In a heartfelt interview on BBC Women's Hour after Roger's death, Anna shared her experience of "financial terror" as she faced an uncertain future while striving to safeguard daughters, Maggie, 15, and Nancy, 13.

Ahead of the release of her new four-part true crime drama, Until I Kill You, on ITVX this Sunday, where she portrays nurse Delia Balmer who survived a relationship with convicted double murderer John Sweeney, Anna spoke candidly about her personal struggles following the death of her husband three years ago: "My husband died three years ago and things were really difficult on every aspect of our lives. One of those was that there's a lot of stuff that comes with grief, and one of them is financial terror.

"And then there are real practicalities around your children and their mental health, and supporting them, which is your priority. It was horrible to have to see my children walk that road. But I'm pretty gritty and pretty strong, and I think I'm quite deft, I hope, at navigating life. I thought, 'I've just got to keep the motor chugging on'."

The actress, who lost her father at 24, added: "When it happened to me when I was 24, I was very lonely. I was very isolated because no one I knew had been through it what I'd been through - I didn't know those people.

"Then when it happened with Rog, I saw it more as, we've all got to keep it together for the kids." Anna, renowned for her roles in hit shows like Motherland and Line of Duty, began her romance with Notting Hill director Roger in 2004 and married in 2010.
