Arman Tsarukyan punched a FAN whilst walking to the cage for his UFC 300 win against Charles Oliveira.
Tsarukyan was looking to put himself in pole position for a lightweight title shot against Islam Makhachev when he took on former world champion Oliveira at the mega-event in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The Armenian fighter got into a scuffle before his actual fight as he was caught on camera punching a fan during his octagon walk.
It's unclear what caused Tsarukyan to strike the fan, but he didn't let the moment faze him and went on to beat Oliveira by split decision. Oliveira was inches away from finishing the fight in the opening moments when he caught Tsarukyan in a guillotine choke but the Armenian was able to break free just as his face went purple.
The action was briefly halted when Oliveira accidentally landed an illegal uptick. The tide turned in round two when Tsarukyan started to have more success on the ground, controlling Oliveira from the top position and leaving him bloodied with strikes. Oliveira came close to securing a choke in the dying moments but Tsarukyan was saved by the bell.
Tsarukyan lost to Makhachev in his UFC debut but is now hoping a chance to avenge the defeat after his win against Oliveira. "It was five years ago my short-notice fight against Islam Makahchev and I gave him the toughest fight," he said. "I believe in myself and in the next fight I am going to beat him just give me that opportunity, that’s it."
