SlipsTips Tips: Ayr United vs Airdrie

The latest slate of Scottish Championship action kicks off on Friday night as Ayr United welcome Airdrie to Somerset Park.

Having won four and lost four of his eight league games in charge, it's been a mixed start results wise for Ayr boss Scott Brown, the most recent of which was a 2-1 loss at home to Queen’s Park.

As for Airdrie, they have exceeded expectations this season so far, as they currently occupy a place in the top four and enter this clash fresh off the back of Challenge Cup glory last Sunday.

However, it’s Ayr who are  marginal favourites with the bookmakers for this contest, though I’m happy to opt for an alternative angle by siding with Over 2.5 Match Goals at even-money (1/1) on Bet 365.

The Honest Men have looked a much more forward-thinking outfit under the stewardship of Scott Brown, having scored in seven of their eight outings so far, all bar one of which have broken the Over 2.5 goal barrier.

However, at the other end of the park, Ayr have so far failed to file a clean sheet under Brown’s tutorship, which doesn’t augur well ahead of a clash with an attack-minded Airdrie outfit.

Rhys McCabe’s men have made the net bulge in 21 of their 27 Scottish Championship outings this season, notching at least once in 10 of their last 11 second tier assignments.

While the Diamonds have been more reliable from a defensive standpoint than Ayr this season, they have failed to silence the Honest Men in each of the previous three meetings between the pair this term.

In fact, these two teams played out a 3-2 thriller as recently as last month and there is plenty of scope for another entertaining affair on Friday night given that both sides are in desperate need of the points. 

With all the ingredients in place for another end-to-end clash between the duo, siding with Over 2.5 Goals at Somerset stands out at evens (Bet 365).
