Ter Stegen, foreign player with second most appearances in an FC ...

Marc-André ter Stegen continues to set new milestones at FC Barcelona. Following his appearance in the game against Valencia, the goalkeeper is now second on the all time list of foreign players with most appearances at FC Barcelona, equalling the total of Dani Alves with 408 games.

Now, the only player ahead of the German goalkeeper is none other than Leo Messi with 778 appearances. In fourth place comes Javier Mascherano with 338 games and then in fifth Ivan Rakitic with 310. 

Furthermore, Ter Stegen is just two games away from matching the total number of appearances of Andoni Zubizarreta who is the goalkeeper with second most appearances for FC Barcelona behind leader Victor Valdés who made 535 appearances. It was Zubizarreta in his role as sporting director who signed Ter Stegen from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2014. 

Ter Stegen made his debut for the blaugranes in a Champions League group stage game against Apoel Nicosia back in September 2014. 

Battling for the Zamora Trophy 

The Barça goalkeeper is still very much in the hunt for the Zamora Trophy this season, retaining the award which he won last season. Ter Stegen has conceded 22 goals in 23 matches in the league this season with a coefficient of 0.96, behind leader Unai Simón of Athletic Club who has conceded 31 goals in 32 matches, a coefficient of 0.97.
