I'm A Celebrity's Barry McGuigan issues apology as he breaks down ...
Things took an emotional turn during the latest instalment of Good Morning Britain as former boxer Barry McGuigan opened up on his heartbreaking loss.
The news programme was back for the last instalment of the week on Friday, December 6 with presenters Kate Garraway and Robert Rinder at the helm. During the show, the pair spoke to Barry, who has become one the latest campmate to leave I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! alongside co-star Maura Higgins.
Sharing what he's been up to since leaving the Aussie jungle on Thursday, presenter Robert also touched on the fact that Barry was able to discuss the loss of his daughter so openly on the show. The presenter said: "A lot of people were really touched on the power of your grief, how challenging was that and should we talk about it?"
Barry replied: "It was the single most devastating thing that's happened to me, losing my daughter five years ago was dreadful. I've never recovered from it- me and my wife."
He added: "Her life was so sad, it all happened at the most important time of her life when things were looking great and she got cancer and she died. Me and my wife have never really recovered from it and I don't think we ever will, just time teaches us how to deal with it."
As he broke down in tears on the ITV morning show, Barry kindly told the presenters, "sorry". But Kate quickly stepped and told him it was fine.
She said: "No I didn't want to interrupt you, I thought you had stopped because I thought there was a delay. We can see the emotion pouring out of you. We saw it when you were in there as well and everybody just wanted to hug you then and hug you now."
Barry also expressed that he found it helpful to talk about his daughter, Danika on I'm A Celeb. He also shared that he previously faced backlash for opening up as some people told him to "get over it".
Seeing his heartbreaking story unfold on screen, fans headed straight to social media platform X to share their thoughts. One viewer said: "What a man... You can see the pain of losing his daughter still lingers. How could anyone be so heartless to tell him to 'get over it?'"
Another fan wrote: "Aww poor Barry." While a third added: "This is heartbreaking to watch."
Former Irish boxing champion Barry sadly lost his only daughter, Danika, to cancer in 2019. Danika was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2019 and died five weeks later at just 33 years old.
