BBC Doctor Who star Bonnie Langford breaks silence on return to
Bonnie Langford is set to reprise her role as Melanie 'Mel' Bush on BBC science fiction staple Doctor Who in May and has given fans a teaser about what to expect

Bonnie Langford has given fans a 'teaser' about her return to Doctor Who this spring.

She will be back as Melanie 'Mel' Bush in the popular BBC sci-fi series in May after joining the show in 1986. The fourteenth season of Doctor Who is set to air on BBC One before the Eurovision Song Contest finale on Saturday, May 11. But, fans can watch the first and second episodes from midnight on BBC iPlayer.

Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa will be joined by companion Millie Gibson, and lots of famous faces are expected to make guest appearances. Stars like RuPaul's Drag Race's Jinkx Monsoon and Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney will feature in season 14, along with Bonnie. She returned to Doctor Who last year for the 2023 special 'The Giggle'.

Bonnie appeared on Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Weekend on Sunday where she talked about playing computer programmer Mel again. She told the ITV show's host that it had been "wonderful" to be part of Doctor Who again last year. "It's so wonderful to be part of it - It's BBC through and through but also it's on Disney+ worldwide and it's very exciting to be part of the show," she said.

Bonnie teased she had a funny time filming: "You see what happened - I'm in the new series [but] I had to drive a Vespa. It was hilarious." She was spotted zipping around Cardiff on the scooter by fans, who always knew where they were filming. The actress said: "So we were driving up and down the streets of Cardiff. So of course there are all the fans there. They know where we're going before we do."

She added that because the fans are so clever, the show had to tell everyone she was joining. "They're very, very good so, they had to announce I was part of it which is very exciting," Bonnie explained. We don't yet know if Bonnie will be a regular buddy to the Fifteenth Doctor or just pop up once.

Fans are already excited for her Doctor Who return as one person said on X (formerly Twitter ): "So good to see Bonnie Langford on Titchmarsh this morning. She's always such a delight, so positive and with great anecdotes to share." Another added: "So lovely to see @bonnie_langford talking to Alan Titchmarsh on #LoveYourWeekend. Met her about 30yrs ago in Metrocentre Gateshead when she joined me at a table in a very busy cafe! She really is a lovely lady with no airs and graces. I was so glad the cafe was so busy that day!"

The BBC has teased what's coming up in the new series of Doctor Who. They teased: "Within the upcoming series, audiences will see the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties."

Russel T. Davies, who is in charge of the show this season, added: "At last, it's my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby's adventures together. Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that's been spanning time and space for decades. Don't miss a second!"
