BBC Doctor Whos Bonnie Langford breaks silence with teaser after
Doctor Who actress Bonnie Langford appeared on ITV's Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh to discuss her return to the BBC sci-fi show.

Bonnie Langford has opened up about her return to Doctor Who this spring. The actor is set to reprise her role as Melanie ‘Mel’ Bush on the long-running BBC science fiction staple in May.

The fourteenth season of Doctor Who is set to air on BBC One ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest finale on Saturday, May 11. However, super fans of the show will be able to stream the first and second episodes from midnight via BBC iPlayer.

International viewers will also be able to watch the Ncuti Gatwa-led series via Disney+ from Friday, May 10 at 7pm ET. The 31-year-old is set to be joined by companion Millie Gibson, while a myriad of famous faces are expected to make guest appearances.

RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Jinkx Monsoon and Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney will feature in season 14, as well as 59-year-old Bonnie. The star previously returned to Doctor Who last year as part of the 2023 special ‘The Giggle’.

On Sunday (17 March), Bonnie appeared on the instalment of Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend and opened up about portraying computer programmer Mel again. Speaking to the ITV show’s host, she said it had been “wonderful” to be part of Doctor Who again last year.

“It’s so wonderful to be part of it - It’s BBC through and through but also it’s on Disney+ worldwide and it’s very exciting to be part of the show,” she explained.

After discussing how “excited” she was to be involved in the 60th Anniversary specials, Alan, 74, asked his guest whether she would also make an appearance in the upcoming series.

After replying in the affirmative, Bonnie shared a teaser of what was to come, saying: “You see what happened - I’m in the new series [but] I had to drive a Vespa. It was hilarious.

“So we were driving up and down the streets of Cardiff. So of course there are all the fans there. They know where we’re going before we do.

“They’re very, very good so, they had to announce I was part of it which is very exciting."

At the time of writing, it’s not known whether Mel will travel alongside the Fifteenth Doctor as a companion or whether she will make a cameo appearance in one of the episodes.

Following the mother-of-one’s appearance on Love Your Weekend, fans took to social media to have their say.

One viewer wrote via X (formerly known as Twitter) : “So good to see Bonnie Langford on Titchmarsh this morning. She's always such a delight, so positive and with great anecdotes to share.”

A second commented: “So lovely to see @bonnie_langford talking to Alan Titchmarsh on #LoveYourWeekend. Met her about 30yrs ago in Metrocentre Gateshead when she joined me at a table in a very busy cafe! She really is a lovely lady with no airs and graces. I was so glad the cafe was so busy that day!”

However, a third X user commented: “Watching Alan Titchmarsh and Bonnie Langford chatting on sofas gives one a sense of why people are bored and finding a certain solace in mad conspiracies....”

Ahead of the new season of Doctor Who, BBC has released a brief outline of what fans can expect.

A synopsis reads: “Within the upcoming series, audiences will see the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties.”

Helming the production is showrunner Russel T. Davies - who said it’s his “great delight” to be working on Doctor Who this season.

He said: "At last, it’s my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together.

“Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!"

A new trailer for Doctor Who series fourteen is set to debut on March 22.
