Line of Duty star Brian McCardie has died aged 59.
The TV star played mafia boss John Thomas ‘Tommy’ Hunter in the series.
As well as the thrilling BBC crime drama, the Scottish actor appeared in an episode of Outlander as Sir Marcus MacRannoch.
Recently, he joined the cast of the Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood.
His sister, Sarah, took to social media, to announce the sad news of his death, writing in a statement: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie, beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many.
‘Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April. A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon.
‘We love him and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts.
‘Funeral arrangements will be announced in the days ahead.’
Following the post, United Agents confirmed his death to the PA news agency.
In a statement, they said: ‘We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian’s sudden death.
‘He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time.’
The official X account for Line of Duty wrote: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear of Brian McCardie’s death.
‘We are honoured to have worked with Brian on Line of Duty. He was incredibly talented and the lasting impact he had as Tommy Hunter is testament to the power of his performance.
‘Our thoughts are with his loved ones.’
Meanwhile, Sarah’s replies were flooded with tributes, as producer Peter Broughan wrote: ‘Shocked to hear that. Great memories of working with him on Rob Roy. Requiescat in pace.’

Kenny Doughty, agent at the Artists Partnership, penned: ‘Very saddened to learn that the immensely talented Brian McCardie has passed away suddenly. Had the pleasure of working with him & he was a true talent, fun & a good man. Will miss him. My condolences to his family.’
‘Shocked and devastated to learn of the passing of Brian McCardie. Brian was a brilliant friend and we had many discussions about mental health issues where he was a fantastic help to me,’ penned author Paul Larkin.
George Clark said: ‘Aw sorry to hear this. Was a presence on everything he was in. Especially Filth and Crime. RIP.’
McCardie played his famous villainous role in the first two series of Line of Duty before his character’s savage death.
As well as Line of Duty – which also starred Martin Compston and Vicky McClure – McCardie appeared in a number of other TV roles, including the mini-series Titanic, Agatha Christie adaptation Murder is Easy, and the drama Dog Days.
Most recently, he appeared in the hit BBC Drama Time, starring alongside Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.
