Line of Duty's Brian McCardie dies aged 59

The family of Brian McCardie, best known for his role as crime boss Tommy Hunter in Line of Duty, have described him as a “wonderful and passionate actor” as they announced his death aged 59.

McCardie, who was born in Motherwell, played the mafia boss John Thomas “Tommy” Hunter alongside fellow Scot Martin Compston in the BBC police drama.

His sister, Sarah, released news of his death on social media, writing: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie, beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many.
