Bridgerton season 4: Rumoured release date and who next lead ...
The second and final instalment of Bridgerton season three finally dropped on Thursday (13 June) to the delight of fans of the Regency romp.
The highly-anticipated period drama released its third season in two segments, with the first premiering on Netflix on 16 May.
The release of these first four episodes set a new record for the streaming service, clocking up 45 million views in its first four days of release alone, according to its own figures.
The beloved series is based on Julia Quinn’s eighth book series and focuses on the lives and loves of the Bridgerton family in Regency-era London.
Fans of the show waited two long years between seasons two and three, with recent news suggesting viewers may have to endure another extended stint in preparation for season four.
When could Bridgerton season 4 be released?
Bridgerton fans could be waiting another two years for the fourth instalment of the hit show.
“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” showrunner Jess Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in June.
“And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace. We’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”
Despite the wait, Brownell described season four as “some of her best work”.
She said: “I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers’ room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers’ room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”
Who could be the lead in Bridgerton season four?
The rumour mill is working overtime to try and predict who could take the lead in season four of Bridgerton.
The season three finale references a forthcoming masquerade ball which eagle-eyed Bridgerton fans have connected to Benedict, who meets his love interest, Sophie, at one such masquerade ball in Quinn’s book series.
His sister, Francesca, may also have a starring role, following the introduction of her husband’s cousin, Michaela Stirling, whose arrival sent certain hearts aflutter.

But in a recent interview with Glamour, showrunner Brownell confirmed that the lead had been narrowed down to just three characters: “I think we can be frank about the fact that it’s either Benedict, Eloise, or Francesca,” she revealed. “All three of them have a lot of growth still ahead of them, and that’s very intentional.”
In a recent interview with Bustle, Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict, was tight-lipped on what lies ahead for his character in season four.
“We just love to keep you guessing,” he teased.
“There’s a constant dialogue between the books and the show, and that’s what makes it fun to watch. You don’t quite know what’s going to happen.”
