Emotional Brigitte Macron speaks after Macron's victory as she packs on PDA with husband

Brigitte Macron addressed the crowds and said: "France is the most beautiful country in the world, the problem is that we don't always know it." Speaking on France 2 she expressed "an immense emotion and a great honour". More than an hour after the official announcement of Mr Macron's victory, the president met his supporters on the Champ de Mars to celebrate his victory with his wife.

She added: "It's such a great honour that I hope to be worthy of.

"We all want things to change.

"I know that we can do it and I know we are extraordinary.

"I have lived through his five years of work and I know where he wants to go.

"I have immense confidence in him."

Mrs Macron was tactile, hugging and affectionate with her husband.
