Warburton gives injury update ahead of #BRCQPR

QPR boss Mark Warburton hopes to have Ilias Chair available for Thursday’s trip to Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship – but admits it’ll be a close call.

The Moroccan international limped off with a knock at half-time during QPR’s 1-0 home defeat to league leaders AFC Bournemouth on Monday.

Ahead of the visit to Ashton Gate, Warburton told us: “He is currently being assessed.

“He took a kick and we’ve got to see if the bruising calms down and he responds to treatment.

“He’s robust and has a good playing record. Hopefully he’ll be available but we’ll have to wait and see.”

After his second-half introduction, Albert Adomah is pushing for a start this time around – while Warburton also hopes to have Lee Wallace available again following his return to action against Bournemouth.

However, Andre Dozzell will serve a one-match suspension following his sending off on Monday.

Warburton explained: “If Albert would have started on Monday, he wouldn’t have made Bristol City.

“We also got 65 minutes out of Lee Wallace, which was really pleasing.

“As I always say, we’ve got to look after the players but hopefully Albert can now be available for Thursday.”

While Rangers currently sit on the cusp of the play-off places with a couple of games in hand, hosts Bristol City – in 18th spot but nine points off the top six with a game in hand – will be looking to mount a charge heading into 2022.

“They are a big club with a big stadium and lovely pitch,” Warburton added. “Nigel [Pearson] is a very experienced manager and they have lots of talent in their squad.

“This time last year, we were in a similar position and we have to recognise that they’ll be a dangerous animal. They’ve got good players and we are well aware of the threat.

“I may sound like a broken record but you’ve got to prepare well for every game and do your homework. If you don’t, you will get hurt.”
