Chancellor Jeremy Hunt faces one of his last fiscal events before a general election must be held - which is widely expected to take place in autumn.
Reports are that he will use his fiscal headroom to cut taxes in a bid to revive the Conservative Party's lagging poll ratings.
But there are also rumours he will introduce a 1 per cent deposit mortgage to get more people onto the housing ladder and cut national insurance by a further 2 per cent.
