Is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot a good idea? Have Your Say

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is reported to be getting a reboot, with original star Sarah Michelle Gellar returning and Choé Zhao set to direct.
The reboot is said to be nearing a pilot order from Hulu per Deadline, with Gellar said to be reprising the role as Buffy Summers but as a recurring character rather than a main cast member because the show would focus on a new slayer. It was also reported that most of the original cast would be likely to come back for the reboot too should it be commissioned.
Dolly Parton's production company Sandollar Productions helped bring the original Buffy series to life, and have had plans for a reboot for some time. Speaking to Business Insider in 2024, Parton said they were “still working on” a revival and added: “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.”
Buffy joins a long list of titles being revamped in some way for the nostalgia factor, like Sex and the City which was rebooted with sequel And Just Like That... as well as Paramount+'s decision to extend the Dexter universe with prequel Original Sin and sequel Resurrection.
But is it a good decision? Yahoo UK wants to hear from our readers to find out your take on the news of a reported reboot.
The original series ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2001, but the show's popularity has continued to endure long after with a plethora of tie-in books and audio dramas continuing the story, as well as the spin-off TV show Angel which followed David Boreanaz's titular character.

Created by Joss Whedon, the supernatural teen drama became a cultural phenomenon that took the world by storm with its action-packed narrative that saw Buffy try to balance her duties as a slayer defeating vampires, demons and other creatures alongside life at at Sunnydale High.
In recent years the TV series has been the subject of some controversy when in 2021 Whedon was accused of creating a toxic work environment on the set of Buffy as well as during production of Justice League. He has denied these allegations.
The show creator will reportedly not be involved in the reboot, which will be directed by Oscar winner Zhao and reportedly be penned by Poker Face writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman.
Previously Gellar said she wasn't keen for the show to be given the reboot treatment, telling SFX magazine in 2023: "I am very proud of the show that we created, and [a revival] doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up. I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment … [but] the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young but I am not an adolescent."
However she changed her mind after her experience making Dexter prequel Dexter: Original Sin, as she said during an interview with Drew Barrymore promoting the Paramount+ show: "It’s funny, I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect. But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realising there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, 'Well, maybe.'"
