Fans are devastated by the loss…

Galaxy chocolate fans have been left devastated after discovering that one of their favourite seasonal treats has been discontinued.

Over the last few weeks shoppers had noticed a certain Easter sweet treat – Galaxy’s Enchanted Eggs – were notably absent from the brand’s selection in supermarkets.

The eggs, which were made from milk chocolate with crunchy caramel pieces and dusted with a rose gold coloured coating, have been said by some to be ‘better’ than Mini Eggs.

@Jackobrfc999 shared the ‘unpopular opinion’ on X (formerly Twitter) proclaiming that the Enchanted Eggs were ‘10x better’ than the Cadbury offering.

As such many disgruntled customers have taken to social media to demand answers from the official Galaxy Chocolate account about their whereabouts this year, with some going as far as to claim that the disappearance of the product had ‘ruined’ Easter for them.

Isobel Greslow posted: ‘@GalaxyChocolate where have the Enchanted Eggs gone? Seriously disappointed u have ruined easter.’

Similarly, Shiree Rear asked: ‘@GalaxyChocolate are your Enchanted Eggs discontinued? Missing my Easter Galaxy fix.’

Richie Allen was also missing the chocolate, as he added: ‘Galaxy Enchanted Eggs. Not sure if they’re gone for good but it’s not good they’re gone. One of the creamiest egg selections ever and the portion size was always good. It’s Easter yet they are missing in action. If anyone has any leads, let me know.’

Mars, Inc who own Galaxy has since confirmed that the Enchanted Eggs have been axed for 2024.

A spokesperson for Mars confirmed the bad news, saying: ‘We can confirm that for the moment we have discontinued our Galaxy Enchanted eggs, but for those Galaxy fans missing the treat you can find our Galaxy Creamy Truffle Mini Eggs in Milk chocolate or Hazelnut available.’

The statement has left many ‘heartbroken’ with @glossieyt writing on X: ‘Galaxy has discontinued the golden eggs/Enchanted Eggs chocolates and I am never going to recover from this heartbreak.’

Others agreed that they were ‘actually devastated’ by the whole thing.

Why does the best chocolate keep getting discontinued?

It’s been blow after blow for chocolate fans over the last few months, as chocolate bars have been axed left, right, and centre.  First Nestlé discontinued Animal bars, a childhood favourite, then they took Caramac. (We’re still not over it.)

Cadbury also recently confirmed a number of products were no longer being made, including Dairy Milk 30% Less Sugar, The Dairy Milk Egg ‘n’ Spoons, and the Peanut Caramel Crisp bar.

There are numerous reasons as to why a brand might find themselves struggling right now and needing to reduce their output — from the rising cost of cocoa, which hit an all-time high on February 9, to climate change impacting the supply of it.

But it seems ultimately, in many of these cases, we only really have ourselves to blame.

The cost of living crisis has meant that shoppers are having to make tougher choices about how they spend their money, and ultimately this is what Nestlé has fallen victim to. The food and drink company blamed falling sales for the disappearance of some of these iconic sweet treats.

Chocolate consultant Dom Ramsey adds that our taste buds are also a factor, as they’ve likely changed over the years, so many of us will have stopped buying our old favourite sweets, in favour of newer products.

This comes after another popular product was officially given the boot, with Walkers crisps confirming the axing of a ‘phenomenal’ flavour.

The crisps in question were part of the Oven Baked with Veg range and while they might seem like a rogue choice, the Beetroot and Sweet Chilli Jam flavour were clearly loved by many.

A fan recently contacted Walkers on X (formerly Twitter) to ask if they were still being made as she hadn’t seen them in a while. User @kazzycoo65 wrote: ‘Are you still doing the baked crisps, beetroot with chilli sauce flavour?’

The official Walkers Crisps account replied to confirm they were ‘sadly’ no longer making or selling them.

The Baked Beetroot treat was first launched in 2019 as a healthier alternative to other vegetable crisps as they contained 40% less fat, but they haven’t been spotted on supermarket shelves since 2021.
