Repairing It On PCBefore trying any big fix on either Steam or Battle.net, it is worth restarting Modern Warfare 2 and then rebooting it. To do that, simply follow these steps:
- Close out of the game from the main menu
- If this doesn’t work, you can open Task Manager (which can be found by pressing ctrl, alt, and delete at the same time) and then force close it
Additionally, if you are on PC – either via Steam or Battle.net – you can try verifying your game files. It is a very easy process to do and won’t take much time.
Steam- Open Steam
- Right-click on MW2 in your library
- Go to Properties and select “Local Files”
- Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to choose “Verify integrity of game files”
- Wait for Steam to complete this process
- If you want, you can also restart Steam
- Open the Battle.net launcher
- Select MW2 in your library
- Click on the cogwheel found next to the “Play” button
- Select “Check for Updates”
- Wait for that process to be completed
If that does not work, you can also try to repair Modern Warfare 2. To do this, just follow these simple steps:
- Open the Battle.net launcher
- Select MW2 in your library
- Click on the cogwheel found next to the “Play” button
- Select “Scan and Repair”
- Wait for that process to be completed
If neither of these fixes work, it’s best to uninstall and reinstall Modern Warfare 2 to give you a fresh, working version of the game.
PlayStation & XboxTo try and fix the issue on either PlayStation or Xbox, you will need to try and restart the game. This is easy to do and will only require the following steps.
- Head back to your home screen by either pressing the PS button or the Xbox button
- Select MW2 and then press the Options (PlayStation) or Menu (Xbox) button on your controller
- From the options, choose “Close Game”
If this doesn’t work, then you can try restarting your console. It may seem like an obvious fix, but it does work for some people.
Finally, if neither of those options works, then you can try and completely uninstall and then reinstall Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward is yet to respond with an official fix. So, if you don’t want to completely uninstall your copy of Modern Warfare 2, it may be worth waiting for their response.
