Angry Call The Midwife viewers hit out at the BBC after the hit drama didn't air as usual on Sunday night

Call The Midwife fans have accused the BBC of 'ruining' their weekend, after the show was replaced on Sunday by the BAFTA awards, as critics argued that the latest episode could have still been shown.

As the drama in the hit drama's 13th series ramps up to a crescendo as the final episode approaches, it was announced last week that viewers would have to wait an extra week for the penultimate instalment, with the show being taken off air to allow the BBC to instead focus on coverage of this year's BAFTA film awards. And, while that has also happened in the past, it's a move that has not gone down well with the millions who look forward to a Call The Midwife fix every Sunday night.

A post appeared on the Call The Midwife X account on Saturday to remind fans that it wouldn't be on this week and the reaction to it spoke volumes. One unimpressed fan wrote: "That's ruined my Sunday night. I only watch a select number of programmes and Call The Midwife is up there at top of my list. Gutted." Echoing those sentiments, a second replied: "Well that’s Sunday evening viewing ruined"

Others argued that the BBC had plenty of channels at its disposal to allow both the BAFTAs and Call The Midwife to air, with one posting: "Should have scheduled the BAFTAs for BBC2" as another reacted: "Nooooooo. Not fair. CTM is the TV highlight of the week!"

Last week's episode saw Trixie finally find out about husband Matthew's dire financial situation, as fans become more and more convinced that tough times lie ahead of the newlyweds and they could even be headed for splitsville, especially after reports of Matthew actor Olly Rix being axed from the show.
