‘Ah s**t’: Aussie ‘monster’ Smith blows minds in Masters opening round like no other

Cameron Smith’s opening round at the Masters started with a double bogey and finished with one. In the meantime, he played some scintillating golf to finish a remarkable four-under with a round of 68, good enough for a share of the lead.

Fresh off the back of his remarkable win at the Players Championship last month – widely heralded as golf’s unofficial fifth major, the Australian quickly shrugged off the six he carded on the first hole to go on a remarkable hot streak.

He birdied the fifth, sixth, eight and ninth holes. Then he added another on the 12th, before a run on the 14th, 15th, and 16th – a remarkable eight birdies for the round.

The highlight was arguably a pinpoint first shot on the 16th that gave him an easy birdie putt, demonstrating the precise iron play that has seen him soar to sixth in the world.

But the mullet-adorned Australian didn’t have things his own way, as he sent his tee shot on the par-four 18th well right – and was caught by the TV cameras and microphones saying “Ah, s**t”.

Regardless, his incredible play left fans in awe, and added to his credentials as a possible winner on the back of a remarkably consistent 2020 runners-up finish where he shot four rounds in the 60s.

He has finished in the top 10 in three of the last four editions of the tournament.
