Junior Championship Hot Shots – Final The Sideline Eye
Now that the Junior Championship has come to an end, we know who sits at the top of our hot shots list for 2024. It took a replay and extra time to finally find a winner of the Junior Championship, with Collegeland getting over the line.
They saw off old rivals An Port Mor with just one point to spare last Saturday evening, after extra time. The teams had tied 0-11 apiece in the first game, but Collegeland edged through in the end, 1-12 to 1-11.
An Port Mor sharpshooter Ryan Gorman finishes the campaign as the top scorer in the Junior Championship. Gorman was a constant threat for his side right throughout the course of the competition.
He kicked 0-13 across the two finals, displaying his accuracy from both placed balls and open play. Gorman finished the championship with 2-47 to his name, with both his goals coming during the group stages.
Collegeland attacker Caolan McQuade, who topped the scoring charts ahead of the final, finishing in second place. McQuade claimed a personal haul of 7-22 as Collegeland got their hands on the Sean Quinn Cup.
Cormac Kieran is in third place having hit a grand total of 7-17 as An Port Mor reached the decider. Kieran claimed six goals against Madden IIs in the group stages and hit the net against Killean as well.
Middletown man Fionnan O’Braonain comes just below that, and he hit 5-21 on their way to the semi-finals. Likewise, Jemar Hall struck off 3-23 as Forkhill made it to the last four of the competition as well.
James McCormack, who finished last year as the top scorer in the Junior Championship, is in sixth place this year. The Ballyhegan man chalked up a total of 4-17 for his side as they reached the final eight.
Collegeland forward Jason Kelly claimed 1-21 throughout the championship, including 0-3 in last week’s final. Kelly’s goal came in the opening round of the group stages as his side defeated Redmond O’Hanlon’s.
Forkhill’s Conall McGeough finished with 4-11 after his first season with the senior team. Sean Og McGuinness nailed 1-18 for Middletown, although he missed the semi-final through injury, while Stephen Sheridan (Forkhill) hit 4-7.
