Chimpanzee
Chimpanzees, our closest living relatives, continue to amaze scientists with their similarities to humans. According to a recent study conducted by researchers from the University of St Andrews and the Central European University in Vienna, chimps share a human tendency to unconsciously synchronise their footsteps when walking.
This study sheds light on the level of sophistication in chimpanzees' social behaviour and communication. The researchers found that when walking side by side, chimpanzees matched their steps with each other, just like humans do. This synchronisation likely helps them maintain social bonds and communicate more effectively with each other.
As we continue to learn more about our primate relatives, it's clear that they have much more in common with us than we ever imagined. From tool use to social behaviour, chimpanzees are proving to be incredibly complex creatures worthy of our admiration and protection.
