Former Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick has died at the age of 84.

A lifelong Gooner, Sir Chips had been a board member for eight years when he took over as chairman of the club in 2013 following the retirement of close friend Peter Hill-Wood.

The Gunners added two FA Cups to the trophy cabinet during his time at the helm, however, it was far from a rosy period in our history with crowd sentiment turning against Arsene Wenger as the ‘Cold War’ between Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov took a toll on morale.

Sir Chips remained chairman after the Kroenke family completed their full takeover before stepping down in 2020. The position was left vacant until Stan and Josh Kroenke became Co-Chairs in 2023.

Before joining Arsenal, Sir Chips had held senior roles at Hambros Bank (like Hill-Wood) and the Bank of England. He was educated at Eton and the University of Aix-Marseille, loved horse racing and was close to the current King and Queen.

Our thoughts are with Sir Chips’ family and friends at this time.
