White Christmas performances cancelled for second day due to Covid

Performances of White Christmas have been cancelled for a second day at Edinburgh Playhouse due to “Covid absences”.

It comes as the festive musical was cancelled last minute on Saturday as hundreds of theatregoers queued for the matinee performance. 

The Edinburgh venue later confirmed the cancellation was “due to Covid” and apologised “for the inconvenience and disappointment caused”.

The cancellation comes as parts of the musical’s script were revised to be more Covid-friendly – including removing kissing scenes and cast members told to avoid touching each other. 

On Sunday, organisers confirmed further performances would be cancelled due to “Covid enforced absences”. 

A post on the Edinburgh Playhouse Facebook said: “Due to ongoing Covid enforced absences, both today’s performances of White Christmas can no longer go ahead as scheduled.

“We have worked hard behind the scenes to find alternative solutions to save both performances, but ultimately the decision was made to cancel today’s 1pm and 5pm shows.

“Customers will be contacted directly by their point of purchase with alternative options.

“Our highest priority is the health and safety of our cast, crew, staff and audiences. We share your disappointment and thank you for your continued support and understanding.”
