Significant rail delays to continue throughout the day after Clapham
The major disruption reported by South Western Railways this morning continues across many south-west London train services this afternoon.

Delays continue for many rail services across south-west London, after a person on the tracks died near Clapham Junction at around 7:30am this morning, 20 March.

Emergency services attended the scene, but pronounced the person dead shortly after arrival according to British Transport Police.

South Western Railway (SWR) announced the disruption for routes between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo this morning, saying it would continue until 1pm before extending its estimate to 4pm.

Currently, SWR is warning of issues across the network until 7pm this evening.

As of 4:32pm, many lines are seeing only minor disruption, while major delays will continue to affected the following services:

  • Hounslow Loop,
  • Reading/Windsor,
  • South Western Mainline, and
  • Ascot/Guildford.

A recent speed restriction has been announced for Staines and Ashford Middlesex trains as a result of defective track, which has contributed to further delays around Twickenham

Previously:

  • Kingston/Shepperton,
  • Chessington/Epsom,
  • Surbiton/Cobham,
  • Suburban lines,
  • Hounslow Loop,
  • Reading/Windsor,
  • South Western Mainline,
  • West of England,
  • Portsmouth, and
  • South Hampshire Local lines

were all affected by major disruption as of 9:34am, seeing major disruption to scheduled trains.

The rail operator reported delays could continue until 4pm today, 20 March.

There were also reports of services being completely cancelled at some stations including Twickenham, with SWR pointing to "a nationwide problem with the real-time information on a number of systems".

While some services were cancelled, the operator has not released any official warning of station closures.

Tickets on disrupted services can still be used free of charge via an alternative "reasonable route" on London Underground and TFL bus services among others.

The full list of services along with live updates on delays can be found here.

SWR's compensation policy is available here.
