BBC presenter Clive Myrie breaks silence on droopy eye
Clive Myrie has given a health update to fans concerned about his 'droopy' left eye while presenting BBC News at Six last night (January 6).

It comes as viewers noticed he had a “droopy” left eye as he presented the evening news bulletin.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, someone asked: “@BBCNews I hope Clive Myrie's OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye.”

Another wondered: “#bbcnews Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye's drooping.”

This person wrote: “@BBCNews is Clive Myrie ok? His left eye is droopy??”

Also worried, a viewer posted: “@BBCNews just [w]ant to check that clive myrie is okay? His right eye looks a bit puffier than usual.”

But soon after the programme, Clive took to X himself to break his silence on the health issue and to reassure fans.

The 60-year-old thanked those who were concerned about his eye but said it was “nothing serious” as it was “just an infection”.

He explained: “Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection. I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”

To their relief, a BBC viewer responded: “Glad to hear it’s nothing serious and hope it clears up soon.

“Happy New Year to you and the family.”

Clive joined the BBC as a trainee local radio reporter in 1987 – he has been the host of Mastermind since August 2021, following in the footsteps of John Humphrys, who had presented the quiz show for 18 years.
