The very first sign you have Omicron could manifest through your voice meaning you could hear symptoms before you

Research reveals you could hear the first signs of Omicron before you feel it, according to experts.

The Covid-19 variant, first detected back in November, could change the sound of your voice meaning you should listen for any changes.

This is because Omicron has been linked with a hoarse or scratchy voice, after causing havoc in your throat, reports BirminghamLive.

Other symptom includes those typical of a common cold, such as a runny nose, sore throat and headaches, which experts have warned that sign and symptoms of Omicron could be going missed.

But despite this, the milder form of Covid has caused a huge rise and boom of virus cases.

There are over 100,000 new cases being registered each and every single day in the UK currently.

It has led to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales introducing fresh curbs and measures from Boxing Day in each of the respective devolved nations.

Professor Tim Spector OBE, from the ZOE Symptom Covid Study App, has warned Omicron symptoms and tell tale signs could be anything from a runny nose and headache to fatigue and husky voice.

Congestion, sneezing and night sweats have also been linked to the new variant, which is sweeping the country and overtaking the strain Delta, which originated in Kent and was first detected in England before Christmas last year.

Boris Johnson is due to evaluate current restrictions and may consider making them tighter in a bid to limit the spread of Omicron. Testing over Christmas was advised before loved ones could visit each other over the festive period.

Public Health Dorset issued an update regarding changes to self-isolation for those who have test positive for Covid-19.

It says that from 22 December 2021, positive cases may end isolation early if they:

  • "Take two LFD tests on consecutive days, the first test being taken no earlier than day 6 of isolation (the tests must be taken 24 hours apart) and the result of both tests is negative

  • "Have been free of a high temperature for a minimum of 48 hours"
