Craig Doyle stepped in as Dermot O’Leary’s replacement on This Morning and viewers were impressed with his big debut – but they can’t believe his age.

The Irishman co-hosted Monday’s Bank Holiday episode alongside Alison Hammond, who would usually have appeared with Dermot while regular presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were enjoying the day off.

However, Dermot was also taking a break, which means Craig made his first appearance as a main presenter on the show, having previously fronted competition segments from his homeland.

At the top of the show, Alison said: ‘Look who’s joining me. It’s only Craig Doyle… How amazing is this? What a treat.’

Her co-host quipped: ‘I feel like I’ve stepped into my telly! It’s so weird. I love it though. Hi, how are ya?’

Alison revealed Dermot was just having a day off, and viewers were delighted with the way Craig slipped into the role, although they were shocked when they found out he turned 51 in December.

One fan wrote: ‘So I googled Craig. That man is never 51! #ThisMorning’

Another quipped: ‘Idk who this fella is but Google tells me he’s 51! Gonna need your skincare regime please Mr Doyle #ThisMorning’

While a different viewer added: ‘Craig Doyle is looking good for 51. Hardly aged at all in 25 years! #ThisMorning’

Meanwhile, others were calling on This Morning bosses to get him back more regularly, with many describing him as a ‘breath of fresh air’.

‘I really like Craig Doyle! @thismorning should have him on more often! #ThisMorning,’ demanded one viewer, as another said: ‘Craig Doyle and @AlisonHammond forever please @ITV #ThisMorning Sorry @radioleary’

Although a different fan wanted to get Josie Gibson involved, and tweeted: ‘Craig is a breath of Irish air, professional, natural and charmingly Irish. A combo of Craig and Josie would be ideal.’

Craig has worked for the likes of ITV and the BBC, as well as appearances for BT Sport for the channel’s Rugby Union coverage, which he’s fronted since 2013, while he also hosted their MotoGP programming from 2015 to 2018.

For the Beeb, he’s been part of the coverage of the Six Nations Rugby, Wimbledon, Athens Olympics and Grandstand.

He even appeared on children’s programme Diggit on GMTV alongside Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates from 1998 to 2002.

Meanwhile, Irish fans will know him from RTÉ One chat show Tonight With Craig Doyle, and RTÉ Two’s Craig Doyle Live.

Craig got married to his longtime partner Doon back in December 2001, and the loved up couple – who have children Quin, Muireann, Milo and Elsa together – live in County Wicklow.
