The Hairy Bikers have become TV legends ever since they made their first appearance on our screens back in 2004.

One half of the duo, Dave Myers, has been battling cancer since 2022 but has not specified what type of cancer he has been diagnosed with.

The star has had long-term co-star Si King by his side supporting him as well as his wife Liliana, who he met eight years after losing his fiancée to cancer.

Talking about the moment he found out he had cancer, Dave remembered receiving a phone call from his doctor while driving on the motorway in France.

“I can't remember the rest of the drive home, it was like everything collapsed around us,” his wife Liliana told Daily Mail.

Dave added: “It's like, 'Where do we go from here?' When I first got the call, what went through my mind was disbelief, and a refusal to believe it in a way. 'It's the word, isn't it, the word that everybody fears.”

After the announcement, Dave took a step back from work but the star is set to make his big TV return tonight on his BBC Two show titled The Hairy Bikers Go West.

The show follows Myers and King as they travel from the north of the country to the south, discovering the best producers, farmers, and chefs along the way.

Alongside Si, their journey will begin on Bute Island, before they travel through Dumfries and Galloway, Lancashire, Merseyside and The Isle of Man, North Wales, along The Severn Estuary and Somerset.

Dave revealed that although show bosses tried to reduce the length of his work days, he still managed to keep at it sometimes for up to ten hours to record the episodes.
