David Seaman speaks out on Aston Villas Emi Martinez in Arsenal theory
The Gunners legend was asked about his thoughts on the claret and blue number one who has been excellent since moving to B6

David Seaman says he doesn't know why Emi Martinez doesn't look back on his time at Arsenal with fondness but feels the Aston Villa goalkeeper is "outspoken".

Martinez moved to Villa Park in September 2020 from the Gunners for a £20m fee and has since gone on to be a huge fans' favourite at B6.

But he has not been afraid to reveal his thoughts about Arsenal having admitted in an interview back in March that the Gunners "didn't deserve him" and said in an interview in October that a move to Villa was a "step-up".

And Gunners legend Seaman was asked by comedian and Gunners fan Matt Lucas in his podcast as to why he feels the way he does.

Seaman said: “I think it’s to do with what he got offered to stay at Arsenal.

"And after ten years, because I was there when he first arrived as a 16-year-old.

“I was helping out Tony Roberts, who was the Youth team goalkeeping coach. And Martinez was really raw.

"He was as raw as it comes., but he had this frame and physique that was perfect for a goalkeeper.

“He is outspoken. That developed because he gains confidence, doesn’t he?! Then, the number of loans he went out on.

"You are meeting a lot of different people. Then you are going into a lot of different dressing rooms. That helps. It helps for a goalkeeper and your mental toughness. But he was always like that.

“But I don’t know why he keeps bad-mouthing. I think it was partly because of what the fans were singing to him when Arsenal played Villa. And they said ‘Ramsdale is better than him’.”
